“Unused creativity is not benign–it metastasizes.
It turns into grief, rage, judgment, sorrow, shame.
We are creative beings.
We are by nature creative.
It gets lost along the way. It gets shamed out of us.”

– Brenè Brown

Have you ever felt like you’ve lost your way momentarily?

Like you have so much to be grateful for, and yet deep down you still hunger for something more? The intent is not to complain. But somewhere in the midst of meeting all the expectations of everyone around you, you feel like you don’t know who you are anymore?

I have too. As a mother to young children, a wife, a sister, a friend, a business owner…. and somewhere in there a woman with her own needs and desires, it’s easy to get lost in the chaos of daily demands. There’s so much that’s out of my control.

Enter my secret weapon: A Journal.

Journaling allows me a space to show up as I am with no fear of judgment. It enables me to acknowledge and release any negativity I’m feeling, notice and express gratitude for what’s flowing, and regain my emotional center no matter what’s going on around me.

I read once that we can spend all day trying to avoid or deny an emotion, but that if we acknowledge and identify said feeling, it takes a mere 90 seconds for that emotion to move through our body. Done. Honored and released. I like that.

And this clever piece from the jazzy great Duke Ellington made me think about the power of perception:

“I merely took the energy it took to pout and wrote some blues.”

What a beautiful reminder creativity can be the magic wand that can transform any experience into a thing of beauty. Whether it’s pain, sadness, frustration–whatever– it’s all energy and can be expressed then reshaped into the tonic our soul needs.

When you’re searching for a retreat that’s easily accessible (because let’s face it, time is often the very thing we have the least of), I invite you to join me and pick up a journal and transform any mayhem in your life into something meaningful.

How It Works:

The “Mosaics of our Lives: Free 7 -Day Writing Journey” is a free week of writing prompts and inspiration delivered to your inbox, with bonus live interviews and tips from creative instigators I admire. I recommend doing the prompts 7 days in a row, as something powerful happens when we show up for a whole week for ourselves, however, there is no wrong way to do this. You can do this journey completely self-paced.

In this Free 7-Day
Writing Journey You Will:

  • Create white space inside and out
  • Discover and discard untruths that are holding us back
  • Harness the power of curiosity and creativity to tap into our own wisdom and magic
  • Develop a transformative habit that will spill over into all areas of our lives
  • Get a sneak peek into the journaling practices of other creative entrepreneurs I admire.

– Alice Sanderson, Wellness Coordinator at Quincy Natural Foods

When I started journaling I felt disconnected from everything including myself.
Using the journal as a tool with Tiffiney brought me fully back into my place of power.”

Thea Wagler, 7th and 8th Grade Science Teacher at Nucla Jr/Sr High School

“For me, journaling gives me a process to sort through the chaos of my emotions.
